ALL MY LIFE – FOO FIGHTERS
“I love it but I hate the taste, weight keeping me down…”

We all need some Grohl in our lives.
Sometimes we need to just shout lyrics at the top of our lungs and get all that angst out. This is such a tune to do that. Have to admit, I did feel like an absolute rockstar when this song came on during a drive back from Birmingham in a convertible!
This is probably the heaviest song on this list; it’s a classic Foo Fighters but if you’re looking to get into heavier stuff, perhaps start here? I’ve no idea haha!!

COLD HEART – TYLER BRYANT & THE SHAKEDOWN
“She could tell that I was dreaming, I was scheming how to get her with me…” 

Gosh, I wish I was Tyler Bryant SO BAD!! I know there’s a lot of Tyler Bryant on this playlist now but, I’m enjoying it – I can’t help that he writes incredibly addictive music. Doesn’t help the fact he’s also talented and gorgeous ❤
This little banger is sex on legs… makes me do things with my hips that I didn’t even know that I could do. I never tire of this tune, as soon as it comes on I have to stop what I’m doing and dance – even in public! I hope it gives you the same feeling as it does me. 

SURVIVE – MASON HILL 
“Try to shut me down, but I’ll go on and on and on and on and on…” 

Mason Hill are one of my fave new bands. They’re a band that I listen to, and just think “TALENT!”. I love that vibe from bands. It’s very relatable to me at this current moment in time; it’s a song I’d like to send to a lot of people and be like “hey, you hurt me.. but I will survive”, but it’s also a song I’d play to myself because no matter how many times I do get shot down, I always get back up again – and what better tune to have that connection with, than an absolute gem written by an incredible band.

WANDERLUST – JAMES BAY
“‘I just want to be in the light, be in the light that surrounds you…” 

I used to listen to James Bay a lot after the night of 14th Feb 2017.
Anyway, before I get sentimental…. sometimes one just needs a little “Bay” in ones life. I’ve had a bit of a big ass reality fish slap in the face, and it hurts. For now at least, I have some amazing memories I can look back on when listening to James Bay. This tune is just making me very happy, chilled, calm etc at the moment and I seriously need emotions like that in my life right now. It’s a totally gorgeous song, that makes me feel so beautiful and puts a genuine smile on my face, I love it! ❤

HARD ROAD – STOP, STOP!
“All that wish is getting closer now, so you don’t think that it’s over and over…”

I went to see the boys play in Birmingham at the beginning of the month – I’ve not seen them for 8 months; which is a kind of big deal because last year I was seeing them at least twice a month!!
Anyway, when they played this song, Jacob looked at me directly when singing the line “you’ve got to trust in who you are, stand up and get it“… and it just meant a lot to me.
It was something I really needed to hear, from someone I really look up to.
It was lovely to hang out with the mofos again – so many people say “you hang out with such motley crews”, like YES.. we are, but we’re also a little family and one that is there for each other.

SHOT AT REDEMPTION – H.E.A.T
“I’ve been strucked out, lying on the crowd with the bitter taste of loving in my mouth…”

This is such a chant!! This is totally my revival song. My “I’m going to rebuild myself and come back a better & stronger person!”. I really am going to pick myself up, dust myself off and get back out there… but in a new way. A new Jodie.
So, next time you see me… imagine this song playing in the background 😉

Fave Songs by Local Bands

Come on, we all know how much of a local band addict I am! I thought I’d treat you to a few of my fave tunes by some awesome local talent. It’s mostly going to be bands from the Bournemouth/Southampton area BUT there will also be a few that are from other regions too. 

Am I biased because I am friends with most of the people in these bands? – GOD NO! I am so fussy when it comes to music, that I can even be dating someone and still really hate the music their band plays! Also, some of these bands took me months to like, even if they are my pals.

OUR PROPAGANDA – Queen of Artisans
This is a band that took me quite a while to get into; I’m not sure why, but it took quite a few months! Mr.Denton is just a young Robert Plant if we are all entirely honest. The stage presence this band has is insane.
Isn’t this song just an absolute classic though! The chorus is so catchy and easy to sing along to, as well as the melody.. it’s proper easy listening if you haven’t heard their music before.

WESTERN SAND – Cut You Down To Size
Well these boys know how to play balls out rock ‘n’ roll now don’t they! I’ve known Tyler & Jimmy for 9 years now; they’re just the ultimate classic rock band really.
This song…. I’ve probably over played. It’s like a massive “FUCK YOU!!” tune; goes down proper nice with a large JD&Coke and or a bottle of the finest white wine also. This is the tune I would tape to a flaming arrow and fire through an ex’s window….

BETH BLADE and the Beautiful Disasters – Legends Never Die
Before I carry on, Beth is an absolutely gorgeous talented and full on bad ass! I have so much respect for her. It took me so long to pick a song!! (was a cross between this one & “This Bitch Bites”).
She pays awesome tribute to all the legends of rock in this tune and it’s also like a little insight into why she loves music and started a band etc. It has a story! It’s so chick flick also… like you totally want to be the next Joan Jett or Suzi Quatro. You go girlfriend!

THE WILDERPEOPLE – Nows The Time
Here is another band that took me a little while to warm up to – but I got there in the end! This song is so beautiful, my heart just feels something with this song; I will either shed a tear or have a massive smile on my face. It’s perfect for every single situation. I think this is definitely my favourite song on this list actually; swear I’m not biased – so perfect – end of. Also just to add in, I think Scott Farron & Chris Payn wrote this one together; so it’s bound to be a great song. Do correct me if I’m wrong though?

VOODOO VEGAS – Ferry Song
I’m not entirely sure how I discovered these guys, but I love them so so much. I went to a gig of theirs in Cardiff actually – found I knew the whole set. How?! Fuck knows… my brain is like a sponge. I’ve only seen them live a few times.
This song; SO GOOD! It’s catchy, riffy, and Lawrence is awesome on that harmonica. It’s a proper giddy little number. You know what actually; I can see The Stones playing a tune very much like this one.

THE BLACK BULLETS – Eat Your Heart Out
Come on, we clearly all have a crush on Billy T and are jealous of Alice’s acts of defying gravity on that bass. This was one of the first tracks I heard from this band, and it’s just stuck as a favourite. They are heavier than my usual tastes, but this song is so easy to pick up and rock out to… you end up singing it round your kitchen while trying to cook a pizza.

THE SMOKIN’ PROPHETS – Do You Believe
So so so glad that these boys are back at it again! Mate…. this is a head banger of a tune!!!
When the band perform this one live, it’s insane how much they get into it – it is an absolute blast. It shows off how awesome Jayke is on bass, and includes a great solo from Marty. So on point!! I can’t find the words, it’s just so good! Let your hair down and go MENTAL!!

BLACK WATER COUNTY – One More Beer Wont Hurt
It’s pirate folk music ain’t it!! In my opinion, these guys are probably one of the only bands I think can justify having over 5 band members.
I think even if this isn’t your usual type, you’re still going to have a soft spot for them. I saw them with a friend a few years back, and he loved them! This song is so fun, and I guarantee will end up on loop. Makes you want to stomp a big hole in that floor… right guys!! 😉

JOLLY JOKER – Dressed to Kill
These guys need more shows in the UK!! I saw them support ‘Stop, Stop’ a few times, and loved them. Such a class act, Lane Lazy is one hell of a vocalist. They write some proper catchy tunes; but this is so 80’s rock, like Hollywood, Sunset Strip kind of vibe, it would be absolutely impossible not to like this tune. I get very excited over this tune! Hope to see you guys with the Sykko Dollz soon – MISS YOU!

STONE TRIGGER – Rattle Your Bones
I love this band! I saw them support L.A Guns at the Brook, and Tommy took my phone… the video is on my Instagram; was a banging night out! This is such a rockin’ number, so easy to get into and the lyrics stick in your head that’ll you’ll constantly think “who was that band….”. Someone needs to do a carpool karaoke to this song!

 

Support your local music scene!! You don’t know what hidden gems are hiding in those small venues you stay clear of 😉 In all honesty, it’s probably some of the above! My friends are so friggin’ talented ❤

Top 5 Songs – March 2018

My music taste is so diverse and changes so regularly, that I thought it would be sort of interesting to start a blog series where I talk about particular songs I love each month. My tastes in bands rarely change, I will listen to the same 3 or 4 every month etc… but songs…. that changes A LOT! So, here’s a little blog of songs I have on loop at the moment ❤ 

BACKFIRE – TYLER BRYANT & THE SHAKEDOWN
“What goes around comes around like a boomerang…”

Well well well…. this song is just so friggin’ SEXY! It is so BAD ASS! The way the bass, guitar & drums work together on this track is just to the point and hard hitting. This tune, is my “get me more confident” tune. I put on my best clothes, do my makeup and I feel like a Queen. Music should make you feel something. This song definitely makes me feel something.

SWEETEST EMOTIONS – MARCO MENDOZA
“There’s nothing else I could do, to keep my eyes set on you…”

I’m choosing this one over ‘Viva La Rock’ just because I personally feel that there is a little more too it. Viva La Rock was a little too basic in my opinion; however this track is so happy and warm… like, I can imagine blasting this with the roof down whilst driving along the beach. Marco has nailed this song lyrically – I’m not overly sure on the brass section in the chorus… but it does add another dimension. He’s really upped his game with this, if you’ve not ever listened to any of Mendoza’s solo stuff, this is a pretty decent place to start.

KILLING OF A FLASHBOY – SUEDE
“And that shitter with the pout won’t be putting it about no more…”

This is just top class Suede. Again, this is a track that makes me feel something! I feel sexy, and ambitious, my bad ass side really does unleash to this tune. Suede are a bit of an acquired taste I think, a bit like Marmite. I wouldn’t recommend them if you’re a bit of a new muso and like to play it safe – however, if you want something different, and can appreciate the musicianship and the lyrical genius, go ahead! Brett utterly nails the vocals on this, no one else can sing this for sure. There’s not much I can really add apart from it’s just an absolute classic.

ENTER SANDMAN – METALLICA
“Sleep with one eye open, gripping your pillow tight…”

Metallica isn’t a band I often float towards – however, I’ve recently just felt in the mood for something heavier than my usual. Gets the blood pumping and the anger out you know. That riff though, corr, and the bass line… agh! YAAASSS! I reckon, even if you’re not into heavy stuff, you can still appreciate this belter – it’s got a catchy enough chorus that you’ll just eventually sing along, and by the end you’ll be headbanging. If you’re reading this, because you want something new to listen to and want to broaden your horizons… pick this one! Go rock to it right now. Unleash your inner bad ass.

ROLLIN’ STONED – GREAT WHITE
“It’s a wonder I’m still alive, can’t believe I ever made it through that ride…”

This is my bloody theme tune I swear!! This tune is so god damn bad ass… it’s just ME all over! I’ve had this on loop for far too long, and is my ultimate distraction… but like I said… this is MY song. Lyrically, musically it is everything I am about.
It kicks off with drum and bass, reeling you in… then that riff just captures you… it’s just rock at it’s greatest isn’t it. So Hollywood!
