Top 5 Songs of March

I’m 23 next week mofos! WOO!! And in all honesty, I feel better than ever. 23 is MY age man, I can feel it, I’m gonna make it the best year of my life so far. Here are some tunes to go along with that sentiment 😉 Click here for last months top 5.

Remember there is a YouTube playlist which includes all these wonderful songs from each month, and also a Spotify playlist which you can find via searching for ‘jodieharris15‘.

Crash Diet

GENERATION WILD – CRASHDIET
“Riot in the streets, fighting and debris…”

Aahh… the lead singer is absolutely stunning! ❤
I messaged my pal Jayke about this tune actually, reminded me of a song his band had written but neither of us could figure out which one!! Something also tells me that I’m seeing Crashdiet this year at a HRH?
This song is perfect with a collection of cocktails, epic Jeffree Star make-up and backcombed hair.

COULD HAVE BEEN ME – THE STRUTS
“I wanna taste love and pain, I wanna feel pride and shame…”

This is totally my theme tune at the moment. The opening lyrics to this tune sum up exactly how I feel about my career and my JodieBowie/NozFest projects – I want to give everything my absolute all, I am not one to give up on anything at all; I may feel like that every now and again, but everything I truly care about and love keeps the undying fire within me to keep on burning and makes me go out there and achieve my dreams ❤
I’d absolutely love to be a multi-millionaire with my own Download kind of festival, with a proper posh house somewhere by the coast; however, I want to work my backside off just trying to get to that point… and if I don’t reach that ultimate goal I don’t care because I’m having way too much fun along the way that any achievement is 100% worth it! My entire life I’ve put musicians first, and it’s finally paying off – I feel happy with who I am and what I’m accomplishing, I love my new evolving style and my new found love of different music genres – man.. it’s like living in a bubble of bliss just as I am now.

buckchderry.jpg

CRAZY BITCH – BUCKCHERRY
“Take it off, the paper is your game, you jump in bed with fame…”

100% blaming Jordan for this one! He recommended it back to me in July, but I was like “nah man, I like Mason Hill.. me don’t need no new music..” – then I heard 27 Days perform it live, and I was like “oh okay, I’m listening” and its been stuck in my head ever since.
Total bad ass tune! I play it when doing my make-up, and my make-up actually turns out exactly how I want it to look if I was a front-woman for a metal band. This song paired with stilettos, a leopard print jacket, my current figure AND Jeffree Star’s Blood Sugar Palette…. aaaaahhhhh…… *faints*….. get me a MASSIVE glass of white wine please – 12.5% 😉 Stick me in one of those cages in Sound Circus and I’ll show you what it’s really all about!

YOU CAN’T KILL MY ROCK ‘N’ ROLL – HARDCORE SUPERSTAR
“The sound will make me strong, won’t judge me if I’m wrong…”

Stumbled across this my accident and I’m so happy that I did! Totally fits in with exactly how I am feeling right now. Always great when a random tune sums up everything you’ve ever wanted to scream from the top of your lungs!

BITCH CAME BACK – THEORY OF A DEADMAN
“That all my friends are laughing thinking that we be wrong, well she’s so fucking stupid that she’s singing along…”

I have a very specific person in my mind for this song and it’s so damn satisfying ❤
I love Theory of a Deadman, they are a fantastic band and were totally MY THING when I was 13 😉 I’ve recently just got back into singing their songs again and I’m absolutely loving it. This tune is such an Avril Lavigne/…. type song; just can’t help singing along and loving life ❤
This song pretty much sums up exactly why I am so fed up at the moment and just want to be left alone for a while.

I feel like this months song choices have been very glam and 80’s-esque for some reason! To be fair I have been wearing a lot more leopard print, rings and things with spikes on lately so that would probably explain the vibe I am kind of going for 😉 I hope you guys have enjoyed this months Top 5, feel free to send me recommendations – I’m currently desperate for some new music to enter my life and ears.

Top 5 Songs – March 2018

My music taste is so diverse and changes so regularly, that I thought it would be sort of interesting to start a blog series where I talk about particular songs I love each month. My tastes in bands rarely change, I will listen to the same 3 or 4 every month etc… but songs…. that changes A LOT! So, here’s a little blog of songs I have on loop at the moment ❤

BACKFIRE – TYLER BRYANT & THE SHAKEDOWN
“What goes around comes around like a boomerang…”

Well well well…. this song is just so friggin’ SEXY! It is so BAD ASS! The way the bass, guitar & drums work together on this track is just to the point and hard hitting. This tune, is my “get me more confident” tune. I put on my best clothes, do my makeup and I feel like a Queen. Music should make you feel something. This song definitely makes me feel something.

SWEETEST EMOTIONS – MARCO MENDOZA
“There’s nothing else I could do, to keep my eyes set on you…”

I’m choosing this one over ‘Viva La Rock’ just because I personally feel that there is a little more too it. Viva La Rock was a little too basic in my opinion; however this track is so happy and warm… like, I can imagine blasting this with the roof down whilst driving along the beach. Marco has nailed this song lyrically – I’m not overly sure on the brass section in the chorus… but it does add another dimension. He’s really upped his game with this, if you’ve not ever listened to any of Mendoza’s solo stuff, this is a pretty decent place to start.

mainBRETT1

KILLING OF A FLASHBOY – SUEDE
“And that shitter with the pout won’t be putting it about no more…”

This is just top class Suede. Again, this is a track that makes me feel something! I feel sexy, and ambitious, my bad ass side really does unleash to this tune. Suede are a bit of an acquired taste I think, a bit like Marmite. I wouldn’t recommend them if you’re a bit of a new muso and like to play it safe – however, if you want something different, and can appreciate the musicianship and the lyrical genius, go ahead! Brett utterly nails the vocals on this, no one else can sing this for sure. There’s not much I can really add apart from it’s just an absolute classic.

metallicaheavymontreal2017

ENTER SANDMAN – METALLICA
“Sleep with one eye open, gripping your pillow tight…”

Metallica isn’t a band I often float towards – however, I’ve recently just felt in the mood for something heavier than my usual. Gets the blood pumping and the anger out you know. That riff though, corr, and the bass line… agh! YAAASSS! I reckon, even if you’re not into heavy stuff, you can still appreciate this belter – it’s got a catchy enough chorus that you’ll just eventually sing along, and by the end you’ll be headbanging. If you’re reading this, because you want something new to listen to and want to broaden your horizons… pick this one! Go rock to it right now. Unleash your inner bad ass.

greatwhite2012

ROLLIN’ STONED – GREAT WHITE
“It’s a wonder I’m still alive, can’t believe I ever made it through that ride…”

This is my bloody theme tune I swear!! This tune is so god damn bad ass… it’s just ME all over! I’ve had this on loop for far too long, and is my ultimate distraction… but like I said… this is MY song. Lyrically, musically it is everything I am about.
It kicks off with drum and bass, reeling you in… then that riff just captures you… it’s just rock at it’s greatest isn’t it. So Hollywood!

I have also made a playlist on Spotify called “TOP 5 : JODIE BOWIE” which I’ll be adding my Top 5 songs of the month to each month. So make sure you go and give it a follow etc so you can listen as well. Search for “jodieharris15“.
Also made a playlist on YouTube.

I hope you enjoyed this tasty blog and hope it inspires you to check out some different bands.

Fave Local Bands

These bands will be from the Bournemouth/Southampton area as I live in that area! However, these bands are worth checking out and do play up and down the country, so if they come into your town… go check ’em out!

In no particular order…

VOODOO VEGAS
Voodoo Vegas
I’ve known about this band for a while but never got round to checking them out until recently. These are fast becoming a favourite of mine. Very good musicianship in this band, which is always a bonus. I went to see them play the Christmas Stage in Bournemouth on Christmas Eve, I was interested in booking them for a few gigs and had to check them out of course, and was very impressed! I contacted them about headlining a New Year’s Eve gig I’m in the process of putting together and they invited me on the door list for their gig at Mr.Kyps supporting a Guns ‘n’ Roses tribute band. I can definitely see the Areosmith and Guns ‘n’ Roses influence on this band, I know they have supported the likes of Uriah Heep, Glen Hughes and Ricky Warwick to name a few. The frontman can really rock the crowd and looks the part, and sounds the part, the bass player is totally committed to his bass which is something I love and there’s also a female guitarist who rocks just as hard as the guys.

SAINTS OF SIN

I’m not being biased because I book them or know them personally, they genuinely are a fabulous band, and I love them rather a lot. Very glam/hairmetal Steel Panther kind of band in my opinion. It’s very indulgent, self-expressive rock ‘n’ roll music, I mean you literally can’t help but participate in the chants and dance moves. I love the atmosphere this band create, obviously love their music and they are all brilliant musicians as well. They all sort of play the part of frontman as well, not just the singer. They even come rock out with you in the crowd. Hell yeah!
Saints of Sin – Last Goodnight Promo Video

THE SMOKIN’ PROPHETS
Smokin Prophets
Have to include these guys with out a doubt!
They come play the Memorial Centre a lot, and are coming back on the 13th Feb and also New Year… so make sure you come and catch them!
They’ve just released their debut album ‘Deceived Diseased’ which they are touring currently, so may come to your town very soon. I highly recommend them. They are getting better and better all the time and are so passionate about the music they play and are a lovely bunch of guys. Heavily influenced by Johnny Thunders and bands such as Guns ‘n’ Roses. Very tight as a band… very punk driven and rock ‘n’ roll based. Love love love!!!
The Smokin’ Prophets – Do You Believe Live

THE FEATHERZ
the feathrs
T
his band isn’t from my area, they are based in London, but I do rather like Danie Cox and co.
Heavily influenced by the likes of David Bowie and Marc Bolan this group categorize themselves as Flock Rock. I’ve known Danie for 6 years now, and know hard she has worked with this band. I love the sound of the band and how they are such a balls out punk rock girl band…YES GIRL! It’s wonderful to see how much Bowie has impacted on Danie’s life as well; something extra special about seeing a girl band model themselves on glam legends rather than the spice girls or the usual hair-metal the guy bands usually go for.
Also this band have recently played a few shows with The Damned as well as toured as the support act for Boy George (Danie has also featured in a few of his music videos).
The Featherz – YOU Music Video

WESTERN SAND
Western Sand
May not see eye to eye with these fellas but I can’t not include them in this list.
My Spotify is mostly Western Sand and Smokin’ Prophets!
Western Sand have toured with the likes of Michael Schenker and The Black Star Riders (including The Dead Daisies).
Originating from that hard southern rock sound of Black Stone Cherry and Lynyrd Skynard, Western Sand take the entwined guitar and drum solos to a whole new level. If you are very much a solid rhythm section and riffy guitar kind of person, you’ll like these guys a lot.
Western Sand – Black Water Resolution Music Video

Check out any of these bands on Facebook, they all have pages!!

Come down to the Memorial Centre in New Milton on the 13th February also where you can see 4 fantastic local bands; The Black Bullets, Pirates of Panama, The Smokin’ Prophets and Daisy Chains , inject some rock ‘n’ roll back into our lives!!
