JodieBowie : Create Your Own Rock Band

This idea just popped into my head, and I thought it would be a pretty cool blog topic. Play along as well of course!! Let’s see what kind of Rock Band I’d create 😉

First off, I think I’m going to go with a 5 piece – 2 guitarists, 1 frontman, 1 bassist, 1 drummer.

I’m also going to include people who are still alive and performing, as that sort of makes it more realistic. Can include any band, any genre, any popularity….. GO!

GUITAR 1
Ronnie Wood

ronnie-wood.png

Got to have Ronnie! He has the energy, the fun, the banter, the skills… he’ll fit right in. There has to be a legend among this line-up, and what greater legend than the man himself, the Rolling Stone!! I feel he’d be a delight to watch perform on stage, judging by my own experience of watching him. He’s also got such a passionate talent, and I love that when it shines through in musicians. I know for sure he could keep up with the youngsters, and maybe even teach them a thing or two! I personally love his personality, his image and most importantly his guitar sound – for that reason, he has to be in this band ❤

GUITAR 2
Kris Barras

I could watch this dude play guitar for HOURS!! I’ve said so many times how talented he is, and for that reason he has to be in this band! Secondly, he’d be absolutely amazing at backing vocals, and I’m sure he could pull off some pretty epic solo’s with Ronnie Wood. I’m a huge fan of his guitar playing, it is so musically satisfying, his talent oozes out in every note he plays, and for me…. he’s captivating to watch as a musician. I think I’d share rhythm and lead duties between Barras and Wood, just because I adore both guitarists and want to hear both fully express their awesomeness.

BASSIST
Dougie Poynter

McFly-Dougie-Poynter-920x584

I think Dougie would fit in really well image wise, but he’s also an awesome live performer which is always important! Dougie can also sing backing vocals, so there should be some pretty sweet harmonies, one would hope. His energy would take this band to another level – if you haven’t seen him on stage…. he is FUCKING EPIC!! I’m a 100% positive he’d be able to work a crowd super hard, and would be a vital character when it comes to audience participation and boosting the energy in the room. He’d keep everyone on their toes, and work so well with the guitarists I’m sure.

DRUMMER
Kyle Hughes

Another excellent choice image wise, in my opinion. He’s also a brilliant drummer, and I really enjoy watching him perform. He constantly looks like he’s having fun, and a good time, as well as expressing his passion – vital points to be a musician in this band. It’s good to know he is also capable of helping out on backing vocals; always helpful! I feel he has power, ambition and drive and would work amazingly with Dougie when it comes to the rhythm section of the band.

FRONTMAN
John Corabi

jonCorabi500 (1)

Absolutely 100% has to be fronted by John Corabi ❤ His voice is everything! Especially when it comes to rock ‘n’ roll. He can take any song and make it sound beautiful – that is something I love, adore and look for in vocalists. A voice that lets me fade away into a blissful tone of loveliness. I enjoy his stage presence, I think he’s got a wonderful rugged image, he can reach some incredible notes vocally, and he can also sing soft slow songs absolutely beautifully.

BAND NAME : LEGENDS!

10 Songs that HAVE to be on the setlist :
1. Sweet Emotions – Aerosmith

2. What Goes Around – Dead Daisies

3. Midnight Rambler – The Rolling Stones

4. Rockin’ In The Free World – Neil Young

5. Feel Like Makin’ Love – Bad Company

6. Mama Weer All Crazee Now – Slade

7. Paper Plane – Status Quo

8. Enter Sandman – Metallica

9. Ooh La La – The Faces

10. Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen

Oh my gosh – I friggin’ love this band I’ve created! Imagine if it was real – would be so damn epic!! I think visually and musically this would be a pretty great band. Got some awesome musicians in there, who give their upmost energy when it comes to performances, as well as them all being incredibly talented. ❤

SO! What did you think of my very own Rock Band? Any members a surprise to you? Good, bad? Let me know!! And have a go yourselves, I’d love to know what you’d come up with ❤

Band Chat : An Interview with Kyle Hughes

Hello hello hello… here’s another Band Chat interview for all you lovelies! This time I have for you, an incredible session musician who’s worked with the likes of Marco Mendoza and Bumblefoot…. KYLE HUGHES!

14980608_560311300840560_3612540042327936925_n

Kyle Hughes is a session drummer from Newcastle, UK, who’s worked along side the likes of Bumblefoot and Marco Mendoza. For someone of a young age he has already made some pretty awesome achievements, such as performing on the same stage as Jools Holland, Adam Ant and The Jacksons. Kyle still tours with the world with various artists, on the road and in studios.

I’ve been lucky enough to see Kyle perform not only with Marco Mendoza, but with a friend’s band – Hightown Parade. I love his drumming style, it’s so nice to see someone genuinely passionate about their instrument, and to see for yourself the enjoyment they get out of playing. He is also such a genuine human being despite his achievements, which is also great. I highly recommend checking out any of Kyle’s work, especially if you’re just getting into learning drums etc – he is definitely one to aspire to be, at the very least.

What made you decide to become a session musician?
To be honest when I started playing drums at age 6 I wanted to be in a rock band and tour the world! I still do of course but, the session route I ended up taking just kind of happened. After performing with Bumblefoot back in 2015 about two years later I started building my contacts and next thing you know, one gig leads to another and it continues like that.

Who are your main influences?
Nowadays I am influenced by a lot of drummers from the metal scene, gospel scene, the pop scene, the list goes on. From growing up my heroes have always been Lars Ulrich, Joey Jordison, Mike Mangini and the great Tommy Aldridge. Those guys heavily influenced me but, as you grow up and see more drummers you start discovering new drummers who are killing it!

Have you any tips for young musicians wanted to start out a similar career?
First and foremost, have fun!! Especially when you’re starting out, have fun and take in as much info as you can by going to gigs or watching your favourites drummers play. Thats what I did.

Once you get a little more advanced honestly, always see yourself as a student and always WANT to keep learning. I’m grateful for all the opportunities that have came my way so far but, for me I want to keep moving forward in my career and with hard work, dedication and determination this is the only way I can do that in my opinion.

Have you always wanted to be a drummer?
When I was 4 years old I started acting school and even though I picked up the drumsticks at age 6 I never really got into it seriously until age 9. I used to perform in theatre shows and made some short films and stuff before any of this haha!

Do you think image is an important part of a performance? If so, why?
For me yes, I know everyone has their own take on things but, if you look the part it’s never a bad thing to have especially if you can play too.

What has been your favourite show you’ve played to date?
There are so many and it keeps getting better. One show that did stand out was with Bumblefoot last year in New York where we played the Iridium for one night. That was pretty special.

Do you have any advice for touring musicians?
SLEEP!! If you want to keep your sanity you must do this haha!

Eating right and just trying to healthy in general is important I think. Sometime it’s not always possible but, if you can hit the gym for an hour or so and eat the right things, you’ll feel so much better on the road. That’s just my opinion (works for me).

Do you have a particular favourite song to play live, with any of the bands you are a part of?
There are so many! From Bumblefoot’s set, it’s gotta be “Abnormal” or “Raygun” are two of my favourite bumble songs. From Marco’s set “Letting Go” from Live for Tomorrow or “Rocketman” as that is a new song we just added to the set.

What has been your biggest achievement so far?
Again there are so many I couldn’t just pick one but, as of recently I was featured in the Drumhead Magazine over in the USA and that was for sure very cool and a big achievement for me.

You have worked with the likes of Marco Mendoza and Bumblefoot… but who has been your favourite to work with? And have they given you any important pieces of advice?
Both artists have given me great advice and I’m very honoured to call these guys friends. Both Ron & Marco are completely different with regards to the music they play and for me I learn different things when playing those sets. I couldn’t just pick one thing but, a few things I’ve picked up from touring in general is to be easy going and come to the tour prepared….always! That way everyone can have a good time on and off stage.

Is there anything that people should keep an eye out for? Future gig dates? etc
There are a few things cooking right now actually more for January – February. USA and Europe mostly.

I can’t announce much right now but,if you head over to my website www.kylehughesdrummer.co.uk or my social media’s which is Kyle Hughes Drums everything should be announced in a few weeks.

If you could be a part of any band in the world, or work with the musicians you wanted to, who would it be and why?
Man there are so many I would like to work with! I’m going to put it out there and say Lady Gaga, Richie Kotzen, Dave Grohl and John Mayer.

Each artist here is not only insanely talented but, they write such great music which for me incorporates so many different styles and is why I would want to work with them. I don’t see myself as just a rock or metal drummer and that’s because I appreciate all styles of music. I feel these artists are all very well rounded and I it would be ver cool to work with any one of the artists above.

Name 3 bands you think people should check out:
One of my favourite bands ever is a band called Osaka Punch. From Australia, absolutely killer band, highly advise you all check them out!

A great artist from the UK, Jordan Bracewell, great performer, great writer and all round awesome dude.

There is a band called Inglorious, they are killer! Definitely check those fellas out.
