BUY ME A BOAT – CHRIS JANSON
“Money can’t buy me happiness, but it can buy me a boat….”
Another gem I picked up from chilling with my Dad one evening. Sort of just hit me in all the right spots you know?
I don’t know why, but this song just makes me think of happy relationships? I know! I have no idea why… it’s just where my mind wonders off to when this song is playing. Or I imagine myself singing it with genuinely talented people. It’s also a song that allows me to love myself, it’s always important to find songs that encourage and empower you…. who knows, maybe when JodieBowie takes off I’ll buy me a boat?!
It’s also true that money can’t buy happiness; you should do things that make you happy, and not for the ‘money’.
ALL THE SAME – THE DEAD DAISIES
“I can’t tame this bitch, but I want her all the same…”
I saw the Dead Daisies in Oxford, and absolutely loved it! Had to include one in my top 5, very hard to choose but I decided on this one. I love a massive love for John Corabi (his voice), and he did sing at me a lot at this show… but this one is a fave as he looked and pointed at me whilst singing the line “I can’t tame this bitch”, pretty much made my entire day ❤
We all have that one rockstar that manages to coax us out of our shell, and be that inner rock chick you wish you could be 24/7 – John Corabi is just that, for me. Him as a person in general, just makes me want to keep pushing myself and keep aiming higher; he inspires me so much to just keep achieving, and I am grateful for that.
IT’S SO EASY – 27 DAYS
“Besides, you ain’t got anything better to do…”
This has been on repeat when I really need to knuckle down and get some work done. Especially on the festival front, it’s fast paced enough for me to actually crack on without getting distracted by everything surrounding me. These guys definitely deserve to be heard! Awesome cover of Guns ‘n’ Roses – I think I almost prefer it to the original but I could just be being biased. Check it out anyway, cos they totally deserve to get noticed.
If you’d like to check them out live, they are playing my Rock Night on the 29th March at the Heartbreakers, so come on down!
HOLD ON – MASON HILL
“Can you hear my voice?… Just follow this sound…”
It’s Mason Hill.. of course it was going to make it into my Top 5! If you follow these blogs, you probably will have noticed Mason Hill are literally my favourite band at the moment. Man, they are just glorious! A deeply satisfying band in all aspects. This song in particular, in my opinion is very satisfying, it’s got everything a great rock song should have, catchy riffs, hard hitting drums, powerful vocals, thumping bass… aaahhh… how can you not like this song man?! I like the fact that lyrically, it’s a song that sort of calls you out.. “Hold On…”, something I really needed to hear recently and the fact it came from these guys just adds and extra level of “come on, you can do it!” ❤
Also a little fun fact : I had this banger playing whilst on a train journey, where I got way too distracted by how awesome it is, that I didn’t noticed that I was the only one on the entire train……………….. was supposed to change platforms….. oopps.
ROCK ‘N’ ROLL AIN’T DEAD! – THOSE DAMN CROWS
“Everybody sing now…………..”
This is such a chant song! It’s almost like a chant you’d do before facing a fight.
Rock ‘n’ Roll certainly ISN’T dead, and if we can help it, it never will be – right?!
I’d happily send this song on a flaming arrow through the windows of my family. Rock ‘n’ Roll ain’t dead.. and it wont be for the foreseeable future!
A message for my family : You guys may not want me or love me, but I wasn’t put on this planet to please you. I was put on this planet to help bands with what ever it is they need. They are my family, and that makes me way more lucky than any of you ever will be. Yes, I’m a disappointment to you all…. but I’m a massive achievement to everyone else. Rock ‘n’ Roll AIN’T dead, and I’m eternally grateful for the passion, ambition, inspiration and fulfillment it has brought to my life.
I hope you guys have liked this weeks top 5, and perhaps found some new bands or songs that have opened your eyes and ears 🙂
